Curriculum

At Esland Doncaster School, our nurturing and inclusive curriculum supports the holistic development of every child. We place equal value on emotional wellbeing, personal development and academic achievement, recognising that students need connection, consistency and compassion to thrive. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and is flexibly adapted to ensure accessibility, relevance and engagement.

We prioritise emotional safety, personalised learning pathways, small-group teaching and therapeutic, relational approaches embedded across learning. Practical and experiential opportunities help build confidence, resilience and independence while supporting preparation for adulthood.

Students access a broad and balanced curriculum designed to prepare them for future learning, employment and adult life. Qualifications include Functional Skills (Entry 1 to Level 2), BTEC’s and GCSE’s alongside vocational pathways, tailored to individual needs and interests.

Our curriculum is designed to be responsive, allowing for adjustments based on ongoing assessment and the evolving needs of each child. We work closely with families, carers, external professionals, and the wider school team to ensure that every student receives a meaningful, ambitious education that prepares them for future learning and life. Class sizes are kept small, typically four to five students with two staff, allowing our curriculum to remain responsive to individual needs.
